Litton not only top-scored with 59 also moved past Mahmudullah Riyad to become the country’s second-highest run-getter in T20Is, now trailing only Shakib Al Hasan.
Put into bat, Hong Kong managed 143 for 7 in their 20 overs, with Nizakat Khan top-scoring on 42. He shared crucial partnerships with Zeeshan Ali (30) and skipper Yasim Murtaza (28 off 19), but Bangladesh’s bowlers wrestled back control in the latter overs.
Leg-spinner Rishad Hossain claimed 2 wickets in an over, including the prized scalp of Nizakat, while pacer Tanzim Hasan Sakib impressed with 2 for 21. Taskin Ahmed also chipped in with two wickets.
Chasing 144, Bangladesh were rocked early at 47 for 2, giving Hong Kong brief hopes of an upset. But Litton and Towhid Hridoy put together a commanding 95-run stand for the third wicket to take the game away.
Litton reached his half-century in 33 deliveries before falling to Ateeq Iqbal, but Towhid remained unbeaten on 35 and sealed the win in the 18th over.
The result marked Hong Kong’s second consecutive defeat in Group B, after losing to Afghanistan in the tournament opener.
Bangladesh, meanwhile, began their campaign on a high as they look ahead to tougher tests against Sri Lanka and Afghanistan.
