For the first time, England’s popular franchise tournament, The Hundred, is opening its doors to players directly through the auction rather than just the draft.

Over 950 cricketers have registered for this year’s auction, and among them is Bangladesh’s left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman, ESPNcricinfo has confirmed.

Mustafizur, one of the most talked-about names in world cricket over the past few months, was previously left out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and missed the T20 World Cup after Bangladesh withdrew due to security concerns.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had specifically instructed Kolkata Knight Riders not to pick him.

With IPL-linked franchises also part of The Hundred, there are concerns that Bangladeshi and Pakistani players could face a “shadow ban” in certain teams.

Currently, four IPL franchises — Mumbai Indians, Lucknow Super Giants, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Delhi Capitals — are involved in The Hundred either fully or partially.

No Bangladeshi cricketer has played in The Hundred so far.

In its first five seasons, only nine Pakistani players featured, and there have been several last-minute withdrawals due to international commitments. Notably, in 2024, Shahid Afridi and Naseem Shah pulled out from the tournament.
