The Bangladesh Premier League is returning to the auction format after several seasons of using the draft system, following repeated requests from the franchises. For the 2026 season, a total of 147 local and 260 overseas cricketers have registered, with the BPL Governing Council finalising the auction rules, base prices, and category structure before sending them to teams and the media.

Date, Venue, and Auctioneer

The auction, initially scheduled for 17 November, was postponed multiple times and will now take place on 30 November at Dhaka’s Radisson Blu Hotel, starting at 3:00 PM.

Orman Rafi Nizam has been appointed as the auctioneer.

Direct signings before the auction

Each franchise was allowed to directly sign up to two local players before the auction. Six teams have used this option:

Dhaka Capitals: Taskin Ahmed, Saif Hassan, Alex Hales, Usman Khan

Rangpur Riders: Nurul Hasan Sohan, Mustafizur Rahman, Khawaja Nafay, Sufiyan Muqeem

Noakhali Express: Soumya Sarkar, Hasan Mahmud, Johnson Charles, Kusal Mendis

Sylhet Titans: Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Nasum Ahmed, Mohammad Amir, Saim Ayub

Rajshahi Warriors: Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mohammad Nawaz, Sahibzada Farhan

Chattogram Royals: Sheikh Mahedi, Tanvir Islam, Abrar Ahmed

Player registration and exclusions

More than 500 overseas cricketers registered for the event, but only 260 were shortlisted. A total of 147 local players will also go under the hammer.

Several Bangladeshi cricketers, however, are missing from the list due to fixing-related suspicion.

These include Anamul Haque Bijoy, Mosaddek Hossain Saikat, Alauddin Babu, Sunzamul Islam, Mizanur Rahman, Nihaduzzaman and Shofiul Islam. In addition, Al-Amin Hossain has withdrawn due to personal leave, while Shamsur Rahman Shuvo opted out voluntarily to create space for younger talents.

Base prices and categories

Local cricketers have been divided into six categories, with base prices ranging from Tk 50 lakh at the top tier to Tk 11 lakh at the lowest. Overseas players are grouped across five categories, with base salaries set between USD 50,000 and USD 10,000. Bidding increments will vary by category, with higher brackets seeing larger jumps per call.

Squad composition rules

Each franchise must form a 22-man squad, including between 12 and 14 local players purchased from the auction. Teams must pick at least two players from Categories A and B combined, at least six players from Categories C and D, and at least four from Categories E and F. A maximum of 16 local players can be included overall. Additionally, franchises must purchase at least two overseas players from the auction.

Budget limits for teams

Franchises may spend up to Tk 4.5 crore to acquire a minimum of 12 local players from the auction, with direct-signing salaries excluded from this amount. For overseas players—both pre-signed and auctioned, the maximum spending limit is USD 350,000.

Payment structure for players

The BPL Governing Council has set a three-step payment system for player salaries. Teams must pay 25 percent as a signing fee, 50 percent before the end of the group stages, and the remaining 25 percent within thirty days after the tournament concludes.
