The high-voltage clash between Abahani and Mohammedan at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur lived up to its billing in the ongoing Dhaka Premier League (DPL). With Tamim Iqbal sidelined due to illness, Anisul Islam made the most of his opportunity, scoring a brilliant 114 off 118 deliveries, laced with 18 fours and 2 sixes.

Coming in at number three, Mahidul Islam Ankon scored a handy 48 off 55 balls. Despite consistently getting starts throughout the tournament, Ankon has struggled to convert them into big innings.

Similarly, Mohammedan’s experienced middle-order trio — Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah Riyad, and Mehedi Hasan Miraz — failed to build on their starts. Mushfiq managed a 20-ball cameo, Riyad added 17 runs, and Miraz contributed 18.

In reply, Abahani's chase was derailed early by Mohammedan pacer Ebadot Hossain and spinner Mehedi Hasan Miraz, who combined to remove four Abahani batters for just 126 runs. Parvez Hossain Emon (15) and Zisan Alam (3) fell cheaply, while Mohammad Mithun (19) and Mominul Haque (25) also failed to make significant contributions.

From there, Shanto fought bravely, scoring 80 off 113 balls. However, once he fell as the eighth batter, Abahani’s hopes effectively ended. The defending champions were bowled out for 225 in 47.2 overs.

Ebadot starred with the ball for Mohammedan, claiming 4 wickets for 36 runs. Miraz and Mohammad Saifuddin chipped in with two wickets apiece.

For Abahani, Nahid Rana picked up three wickets, while left-arm pacer Mrittunjoy Chowdhury, left-arm spinner Rakibul Hasan, and Mahfuzur Rahman Rabbi all bagged two wickets each.

With this win, Mohammedan now sit second on the points table, level on points with Abahani.

The match was not without controversy as Mohammedan captain Towhid Hridoy got involved in a dispute with the umpire over an out decision.
