A section of Dhaka’s club organisers has already written to the National Sports Council (NSC), asking for the election process to be examined by an independent committee.
Tamim said that 50 of the 76 clubs in Dhaka support the demand for an investigation. He had initially collected nomination papers as a councillor from Old DOHS in the last BCB election but later withdrew, citing irregularities in the selection of district and divisional councillors.
Tamim Iqbal said, “Time will tell. There is a proper process for making such requests, and we have followed that process in submitting our application.”
Nine other candidates from the club category also pulled out for similar reasons.
Former BCB director Fahim Sinha said the application calls for an independent investigation committee, which could include a representative from the NSC.
Mohammedan Sporting Club director Masuduzzaman said the request was made now because the country has returned to a democratic environment.
“Democracy has returned after 17 to 18 years. Now we have a democratic government, and we believe this is the right time to speak up,” he said.
Meanwhile, several Dhaka clubs have been boycotting club cricket, calling the current BCB board “illegal”.
