Shakib has been unable to come back to the country since the fall of the Awami League government in August 2024.
Having served as a Member of Parliament under the previous administration, the former Bangladesh captain faces multiple cases, which have prevented his return despite his willingness to do so.
The star all-rounder had planned to retire from international cricket on home soil following the Test series against South Africa, but that opportunity slipped away.
An earlier attempt to facilitate his return was halted after protests erupted in Mirpur, prompting the government to withhold clearance.
In recent months, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) officials had largely maintained that the matter rested with the government.
However, the board has now taken a more proactive stance and is actively working to bring Shakib back into the national fold.
A BCB source confirmed the matter on Tuesday that the files have been submitted to the ministry, calling it a new and important step toward resolving the issue and paving the way for Shakib’s comeback.
