Lipu likely to step down as Bangladesh chief selector

Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu is nearing the end of his two-year tenure as Bangladesh’s chief selector, with his contract set to expire on February 28.

According to a source, Lipu is not keen on renewing his contract as he has already sent a letter to the board citing his unavailability.

Since taking charge on February 12, 2024, the former Bangladesh captain has experienced a tenure marked by both bold decisions and controversy.

His calls, including dropping Litton Das from the Champions Trophy squad, reducing Najmul Hossain Shanto’s captaincy role to one format, omitting and later recalling Shamim Hossain, and backing Saif Hasan, repeatedly drew attention.
