The challenge, created as social media content for a charitable cause, featured Hamza alongside his Leicester City teammate Luke Thomas and quickly gained popularity online.
The cricket challenge was organised by Leicestershire County all-rounder Ben Mike and took place during a break from Leicester City’s training sessions.
Hamza and Luke showcased their skills across three disciplines, catching, direct-hit run-outs and batting. Luke Thomas finished with 17 points, narrowly edging Hamza, who scored 16.
Batting proved to be the most entertaining segment of the challenge. Facing five deliveries, Hamza did not manage to hit a six but remained unbeaten, while also impressing with sharp catching and accurate throws that rattled the stumps.
The timing of the challenge was significant, with the Ashes series currently underway in Australia. Through this initiative, Ben Mike aimed to highlight how proficient English footballers can be at cricket during the sport’s most historic rivalry.
Hamza’s interest in cricket dates back to his childhood. Despite joining Leicester City’s football academy at a young age, he regularly played cricket whenever he had the chance.
