Indian authorities have banned protests in Gwalior and the circulation of inflammatory content on social media before the T20I match between India and Bangladesh on October 6. This ban will remain in effect until October 7.

The Hindu Mahasabha, a political party, had called for a protest on the day of the match, previously alleging that religious minorities were being persecuted in Bangladesh.

In response, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has urged Indian authorities to ensure adequate security for the Bangladesh team. Security has also been tightened in Kanpur, where a previous India-Bangladesh Test match faced similar threats.

According to NDTV, over 1,500 police personnel have been deployed in Gwalior to manage the traffic. District magistrate Ruchika Chauhan issued the prohibition order under the Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) law, following calls from various right-wing groups to cancel the match. These groups have also led processions and demonstrations.

Indian media reports indicate that legal action will be taken against anyone sharing inflammatory content on social media, and banners, posters, and cutouts with questionable material will be banned.

This situation arose after certain right-wing groups raised concerns about the safety of Hindus in Bangladesh.

Following the recent ousting of Sheikh Hasina’s government through a popular uprising led by students and citizens, incidents of attacks on Hindus have been reported in parts of Bangladesh.
