Team effort lifts the Legends


The Dhaka Premier League match between Legends of Rupganj and Mohammedan Sporting Club commenced with the latter winning the toss and deciding to field first. Rupjganj, in response, have started very well with both their openers getting a start.
They, however, were pretty slow in their approach. Abdul Mazid, especially, has scored 36 from 71 balls thus far. His opening partner Salauddin Pappu got out after scoring 22 from 37 balls.
Sami Aslam was the next to come in, but he perished after playing 9 balls and scoring only 1 run in the time being. Both the wickets were taken by Bangladesh U19 sensation Qazi Onik, who was brilliant all through the game.
Captain Naeem Islam was the next to go, but it wasn’t before he scored 36 from 51 balls. Soon after, Abdul Mazid was sent back to the pavilion with 70 runs from 115 balls.
Not much was expected as Rupganj were batting at 133/4 after 35.3 overs. However, a brilliant partnership from Tushar Imran and Avishek Mitra helped the score reach 231 runs in 50 overs. The former scored 40 from 34 balls while the latter stayed on till the end to make 45 in as many balls.

The pick of the 22 players, though, was 18-year-old Qazi Onik. He ended the innings with 5 from 44 in his 10 overs. He was well supported by Enamul Haque’s 2 wickets for 38 runs in 10 overs.
In response, Mohammedan Sporting Club openers started well, especially Rony Talukdar. In his 37 balls, he managed to score 30 runs and should be disappointed at not being able to play a bigger innings. Salman Butt, meanwhile, wasn’t effective enough.
He might have scored 21, but it took him 49 balls to reach that figure before losing his wicket to Asif Hasan, who also took the wicket of Talukdar. The same bowler had later dismissed Mohammedan skipper Shamsur Rahman to claim all the three top-order wickets. Shamsur made 34 runs before leaving the crease.
Rupganj’s Mosharraf Hossain and Mohammad Shahid wiped out the rest of the batsmen of Mohammedan to seal the victory. Mosharraf scalped 4 wickets whereas, Shahid took 3.
Among the other batsmen, Raqibul’s knock of 32 was followed by two short innings 19 and 18 runs from Irfan Sukkur and Enamul Haque, respectively. No other Mohammedan player could go past 5 runs as the team were handed a 62-run defeat after they got restricted to 169 runs.
