Tamim Iqbal was absent from the Mohammedan Sporting Club’s dressing room today after suffering a deadly heart attack as new captain Towhid Hridoy dedicated their first victory to Tamim.

On March 24, Tamim suffered a heart attack shortly after the toss during a Dhaka Premier League (DPL) eighth-round match. A subsequent check-up revealed a blockage in his heart, and a stent was inserted.

He has since returned home from the hospital and is currently on rest. It may take around three months for him to resume a normal lifestyle.


Despite the setback, Mohammedan went on to register an easy win over Shinepukur Cricket Club that same day, dedicating the triumph to their hospitalized captain before heading into the Eid break.


Following nearly two weeks of vacation, the league resumed on Sunday, and Mohammedan kept their momentum intact, defeating Prime Bank Cricket Club by five wickets at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.

In Tamim’s absence, Hridoy led the side against Shinepukur and has now been appointed as captain for the remainder of the season.

After the win against Prime Bank, Hridoy took to social media to express the team’s emotions:


"On behalf of Mohammedan Sporting Club, we dedicate today’s win (Sunday) to Tamim Iqbal Bhai. We missed you."


After receiving immediate treatment at KPJ Specialized Hospital following the heart attack, Tamim was later transferred to Evercare Hospital in Dhaka. Showing signs of recovery, he was discharged and is now resting at home.



To undergo further medical examinations and determine the next steps for his treatment, Tamim is scheduled to travel to Singapore on Monday night.
