Sharmin Akter and Shorna Akter put up a fight with the bat, but the rest of Bangladesh’s batting line-up failed to keep pace as the Tigresses were bowled out for 172 in the third and final ODI against Australia.

The hosts chased down the target comfortably, winning by eight wickets with 164 balls to spare to complete a 3-0 series sweep.

Ellyse Perry and Annabel Sutherland struck unbeaten half-centuries to guide Australia to victory after the hosts lost two early wickets in their chase of 173 at the Allan Border Field in Brisbane.

Sultana Khatun gave Bangladesh an early breakthrough in the second over, trapping Georgia Voll lbw for 11 off six balls. Debutant pacer Disha Biswas then claimed her maiden international ODI wicket, bowling Beth Mooney for 21 off 14 deliveries.

However, Perry and Sutherland took control from there, launching a counterattack against the Bangladesh bowlers. Perry remained unbeaten on 65 off 64 balls, while Sutherland smashed 74 not out off just 52 deliveries, including 12 boundaries, to take Australia home with plenty of time to spare.

Earlier, Bangladesh’s batting struggles resurfaced after they were asked to bat first. They lost their first wicket with just six runs on the board, as Megan Schutt dismissed Murshida Khatun for one after she edged a delivery to the fielders.

Schutt struck again to remove Sharmin Sultana, who managed just six off 21 balls, caught by Alana King at fine leg. Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana Joty followed soon after, edging behind for three off 14 balls to leave the visitors reeling at 18 for three.

Sharmin Akter then attempted to rebuild the innings alongside Sobhana Mostary, who had scored a century in the previous match. But Mostary fell to Schutt’s fourth wicket of the innings after scoring just nine off 24 balls, leaving Bangladesh in further trouble at 45.

Shorna joined Sharmin at the crease, and the pair added 54 runs to steady the innings. Sharmin brought up her 11th ODI half-century but departed soon afterwards, caught by Nicola Carey at point off Perry. She made 50 off 93 balls, hitting eight boundaries.

Shorna continued to hold one end together and registered her maiden international half-century. However, she received little support from the other end as wickets continued to fall.

The middle-order batter eventually fell to Sutherland for 54 off 121 balls, with four boundaries, as Bangladesh were dismissed for 172 in 49.5 overs.

Schutt led Australia’s bowling attack with four wickets, while Ashleigh Gardner and Sutherland claimed two apiece. Perry and King took one wicket each.

The defeat completed a 3-0 whitewash for Bangladesh on their first tour of Australia.
