JioStar has terminated its broadcast agreements for the IPL in Bangladesh, leaving the tournament without a local television partner in the country for now.

According to a document seen by Reuters, the company ended its deal with TSports over non-payment issues, saying the Bangladeshi broadcaster had repeatedly failed to meet the agreed payment deadlines.

In a letter dated February 17, JioStar informed TSports that the sublicensing agreement, which covered IPL rights in Bangladesh from 2023 to 2027 had been cancelled with immediate effect.

"The agreement stands terminated with immediate effect," JioStar said.

The development comes amid continued uncertainty over the IPL’s status in Bangladesh. Earlier this year, the country had halted IPL broadcasts after Kolkata Knight Riders dropped Mustafizur Rahman, a move that triggered backlash in Bangladesh during a period of strained relations between the two countries.

Although Bangladesh has since indicated that the matter remains under review, JioStar’s decision now means there is currently no local broadcaster in place, even if the ban is eventually lifted.

A separate letter also showed that JioStar has similarly ended its Women’s Premier League (WPL) broadcast deal in Bangladesh, again citing payment defaults.

The IPL, one of the world’s most valuable cricket leagues, remains hugely popular among Bangladeshi fans despite the ongoing political and broadcasting complications.
