Former Prime Minister of Bangladesh and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia passed away on Tuesday at around 6:00am, while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital.

As a mark of respect to her memory, no matches of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) are being played today.

In an official press release, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) stated that considering the national mourning and to pay tribute to Khaleda Zia, today’s two scheduled BPL matches have been cancelled.

The BCB added that revised dates for these matches will be announced later.

According to the original schedule, Sylhet Titans were set to face Chattogram Royals at 1:00pm, followed by the match between Dhaka Capitals and Rangpur Riders at 6:00pm at the Sylhet International Stadium.

Earlier, the BCB expressed deep condolences over the passing of Khaleda Zia. In its statement, the board gratefully acknowledged her continued support for the development of cricket in Bangladesh.

The BCB press release noted that during her tenure as Prime Minister, she provided remarkable support for the growth of Bangladesh cricket.

Khaleda Zia played a significant role in the development of cricket infrastructure and the expansion of the game across the country. Her vision and encouragement helped pave the way for the success and progress of Bangladesh cricket.
