Habibul Bashar is once again poised to take on a major responsibility in Bangladesh cricket as the former national captain, who has extensive experience as a selector, is set to be appointed as the new chief selector of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

The current chief selector, Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu, is set to see his contract expire on February 28.

It is understood that the former Bangladesh captain is not interested in renewing his contract, leaving the position vacant.

In this context, the BCB is keen to see Bashar take over the role.

According to sources, he has already been formally approached in recent days, and the board has expressed its interest in handing him the responsibility.

The former captain is currently serving within the BCB as the head of the Game Development Department. Bashar’s experience as a selector is significant. He first joined the national selection panel in 2016.

Over the next eight years, he served continuously in the role, gaining one of the longest tenures in Bangladesh’s cricket administration. During that period, Faruque Ahmed was the chief selector.

Bashar later continued as a member of the selection panel under Minhajul Abedin Nannu.

An official announcement is expected soon.
