In a press release issued on Wednesday, CWAB said discussions among cricketers over the ongoing situation have taken into account the impact on various national teams currently engaged in international competitions.
CWAB noted that Bangladesh’s women’s national team is presently touring Nepal, while the men’s national team is competing in a T20 World Cup, and the Under-19 men’s team is also involved in a World Cup campaign.
The association said a complete shutdown of cricket could negatively affect these teams, prompting players to reassess their earlier stance in the greater interest of the sport.
The cricketers welcomed the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) decision to remove director M Najmul Islam from the Finance Committee and confirmed that a show-cause notice has been issued to him.
CWAB stated that since the BCB has sought time to complete the due process regarding his position as a board director, the players are willing to allow that process to continue.
However, CWAB also stressed that Najmul must publicly apologise for making derogatory remarks about cricketers. The association expressed hope that he would do so.
In the statement, CWAB informed the BCB that if Najmul issues a public apology and the board continues the process concerning his directorship, the players are prepared to return to the field immediately from Thursday.
