Speaking at a press conference in Banani on Thursday, the players said they are ready to return to action, but only if Najmul steps down, stressing that they see no alternative otherwise.
At the press conference, the players outlined five key issues behind their stance, including the ongoing crisis in Dhaka First Division Cricket, the BCB’s response to allegations of sexual harassment involving women cricketers, the demand for Najmul’s resignation, and concerns over facilities and opportunities in women’s cricket.
CWAB president Mohammad Mithun said the cricketers would take the field only if the BCB formally commits to removing Najmul within 48 hours.
He warned that if Najmul remains in his position, the responsibility for halting cricket would not lie with the players. The cricketers also said that if the board accepts their condition by the afternoon, they are willing to resume matches later in the evening.
The crisis stemmed from controversial remarks made by Najmul following a BCB prayer session, where he questioned the financial investment in players who fail to perform at global tournaments.
His comments prompted CWAB to issue an ultimatum demanding his resignation before the start of the BPL matches.
