The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has served a show-cause notice to its director M Najmul Islam over his objectionable public remarks, just hours before Thursday’s scheduled Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) matches.

The move comes amid a nationwide boycott call by the Cricketers’ Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB).

Cricket activities were already disrupted on Thursday morning, with all four Dhaka Cricket League first-division matches failing to start on time. Players from Chattogram Royals and Noakhali Express, set to feature in the day’s opening BPL match, have also decided to honour the boycott.

In a statement, the BCB confirmed that formal disciplinary proceedings have begun, giving Najmul 48 hours to respond.

Although some board directors reportedly offered to remove him from the finance committee chairmanship, CWAB president Mohammad Mithun said the boycott would continue.

With about half an hour left before the scheduled toss, CWAB leaders remain firm on their stance and are expected to hold a press conference after the match start time passes, reiterating their demands, including Najmul's resignation.
