Chasing a target of 272 runs in Lahore, Thailand started well with an opening stand of 38 runs. However, they quickly collapsed against the spin duo of Fahima Khatun and Jannatul Ferdous Sumona, getting bowled out for just 93 runs.
Thailand’s top scorer was Chanida Sutthiruang with 22 runs. Fahima and Sumona shared the wickets between them, both achieving their first-ever five-wicket hauls in ODIs.
Off-spinner Sumona conceded only 7 runs, while leg-spinner Fahima finished with 5 for 21, beating her previous best bowling figures of 3 for 38.
Sumona, playing her third career ODI and returning to this format after seven years, also picked up her first wickets today.
Before the bowling heroics, skipper Nigar Sultana Joty smashed her maiden century — and it came in record-breaking fashion. She scored the fastest-ever ODI hundred by a Bangladeshi woman, reaching the milestone off just 78 balls.
The previous record was held by Fargana Hoque Pinky, who had scored a century off 156 balls against India in 2023. Joty led from the front, hammering 101 off 80 balls, including 15 fours and one six.
Sharmin Akhter narrowly missed her maiden century, remaining unbeaten on 94 with 11 fours. Fargana Hoque also chipped in with 53 runs at the top of the order.
With Joty’s record century and two strong fifties from Sharmin and Fargana, Bangladesh posted a record team total of 271 for three — their highest in Women's ODIs. Their previous best was 252 for four, also against Ireland in 2024 at Mirpur.
