Bangladesh to lock horns with Afghanistan in ODI opener tomorrow

Following a disappointing Test series, Bangladesh hopes to find relief in the ODI format as they face Afghanistan in the first match of a three-game series at Sharjah Cricket Stadium tomorrow (Wednesday) at 4 PM Bangladesh time.
ODI cricket has generally been favorable for Bangladesh, though Afghanistan consistently poses a tough challenge.
While Bangladesh holds a slight edge with 10 wins to Afghanistan’s six in their 16 ODI encounters, there's no room for complacency.
The Tigers, as Bangladesh’s team is fondly called, had maintained a flawless record in bilateral ODI series against Afghanistan until last July, when they fell 2-1 in Chattogram. That series loss marked the beginning of a challenging period for Bangladesh in their most reliable format.
Meanwhile, Afghanistan has gained momentum, recently defeating South Africa 2-1 and Ireland 2-0 in three-match series hosted in their adopted home venue, the UAE.
Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto wants his top-orders, who are currently out of form, to perform to their potential.
"I believe that in any format, a strong start from the top order is crucial. I don’t want anyone to feel pressured while batting. Those at the top should enjoy their game and play for the team to the best of their ability" Shanto said in press meet on Tuesday.
