Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB)’s cricket operation manager Shahriar Nafees stated the board will hold a discussion with Shakib al Hasan regarding his participation in the upcoming Test series against Pakistan.
Shakib, a renowned cricketer turned politician, is currently busy in the Global T20 Canada and is supposed to return to the country on August 13. However, his return is in jeopardy due to the ongoing unrest in the country after the fall of his political party Awami League.
Bangladesh are scheduled to tour Pakistan for a two-match Test series, Nafees claimed that the board will reach out to Shakib about his availability in the upcoming series.
"Shakib Al Hasan's NOC is till August 12. On August 13, he is supposed to return to the country and report to us. He still has two to three matches remaining and we will communicate with him and try to know his plans," Shahriar said about Shakib.
Nafees expects Shakib to join the test fold after the end of No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the GT20 on August 13.
"Shakib is a cricketer now. Yesterday night, as per president's order, Shakib is no longer a MP. He is only a cricketer now. Every human being has security concerns. Since he has an NOC till 12th, after that he is supposed to join us. BCB's selection panel has not announced the team for Pakistan yet. When they announce the team, if he is picked, there are separate measures and if he is not there then another one. If he is not there then his NOC is not useful," Shahriar opined.
The Pakistan National Cricket Team and the Tigers will play a Test series starting on August 21 in Rawalpindi, followed by the second match in Karachi from August 30.
Both games will be part of the ICC Test Championship, crucial for both teams.
