Bangladesh women’s captain Nigar Sultana Joty sees Asia Cup as a great opportunity for redemption and preparation ahead of the upcoming Women’s World Cup in October.
The women's team had a disappointing performance against India and Australia, failing to secure any wins. Nigar views this tournament as a valuable opportunity to prepare for the T20 World Cup, which will be hosted at home in October.
"It's a fantastic chance for us to get ready for the World Cup by participating in the Asia Cup. Our recent series performances have been disappointing, without a single win. After a long break, we focused on playing domestic cricket. Those who performed well there have made it into the team. I noticed during the last training camp that everyone was in high spirits. We are eager to showcase some excellent cricket on the field" said Nigar.
Nigar stated that their primary target would be the semi-finals and urged her side to re-group after successivepoor outings.
"In the last Asia Cup, we couldn't make it to the semifinals. This time, the first target is to reach the semifinals. Our first match is very important because we haven't been performing well for a long time. We have seen some individual performances, but we haven't performed well as a team. We want to start the tournament on a high note against Sri Lanka well for our momentum," she said.
Jahanara Alam and Rumana Ahmed have returned to the national team after a long break. The captain believes that their experience will strengthen the team in the upcoming tournament.
