New Zealand captain Kane Williamson praised the T20 World Cup's expansion to 20 nations after the United States defeated Pakistan on Thursday.
World Cup co-host USA stun Pakistan in their opener beating them by five runs in the super-over clash. Pakistan set a target of 160 runs, in reply the USA equalised on the final ball to end their innings at 159-3. Followed that, the match rolled down to super over, with USA setting 18 runs and Pakistan managing only 13 runs.
"That sort of exposure is only beneficial for all teams. When you come to tournament-time anything can happen which is the beauty of the sport. But it's ultimately great for the growth (of cricket)," said Williamson.
Williamson mentioned that his team had observed the Pakistan upset from their base in the Caribbean.
"That was an amazing game of cricket. In these tournaments every team has really talented players, whether they've had experience against test-playing nations or not. In some ways, it's (how you play) on the day," he added.
Usa are currently leading Group A and will face the formidable team India next week. The top two teams in the group will move on to the Super 8 phase.
