Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief physician, Debashish Chowdhury, stated that they will provide an update on pacer Shoriful Islam’s injury status after a period of two days.
Shoriful suffered a finger injury during their warm-up match against India on Saturday, raising concern to miss the entire World Cup.
The incident took place during the last over of India’s innings when Shoriful Islam attempted to stop a straight drive off Hardik Pandya as he tried to stop the ball in his follow-through, Shoriful injured his left palm.
"Today, during the India-Bangladesh preparation match, Shoriful suffered a split injury in the space between his left index finger and middle finger while blocking a return ball during his last over. He was then taken to a hand surgeon for supervision, where micro-sectioning of his wound was done and six stitches were taken,” said Debashish.
"We will go back to the hand surgeon in two days. Then we will know how long it will take to recover. Considering the importance of Shoriful, we are trying to provide the best possible medical treatment to him. Hopefully, he return to the game safely," he added.
