Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) management from USA confirmed pacer Shoriful Islam got stitches after he hit his bowling arm during the warm-up match against India on Saturday in New York.
After a length delivery by Shoriful Islam, Hardik Pandya played a straight drive as Shoriful tried to stop the ball in his follow-through, Shoriful injured his left palm.
After the ball hit his hand, the left-arm pacer immediately sat down on the ground. Since it was a practice match, the physiotherapist promptly came onto the field and escorted him off and late he was taken to a local hospital.
After the match, Najmul Hossain Shanto confirmed the situation. The Bangladesh captain stated that the left-arm pacer is under observation and is expected to recover soon.
However, a team management member revealed that although Shariful is under observation, the area between his thumb and index finger has split open due to the impact as Bangladesh’s prime bowler received five stitches on his hand.
After the observation period, a decision regarding his condition might be announced in the next 2-3 days. Given the nature of his injury, it is unlikely that the left-arm pacer will return to the field before at least a week.
If Shariful cannot return before a week, he might miss the match against Sri Lanka in Dallas on June 8th, though this is not yet confirm.
Before leaving the field due to the injury, Shoriful was impressive with the ball. In the official practice match against India, he took the wicket of Sanju Samson, conceding 26 runs in 3.5 overs.
