Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced a 15-member squad on Tuesday for the upcoming T20I World Cup 2024, scheduled to begin on June 2 in the USA and West Indies.

Najmul Hossain Shanto will lead the side and pacer Taskin Ahmed will be his deputy in the 20-team tournament.

Taskin Ahmed's spot in the Bangladesh squad was uncertain, as the fast bowler had sustained a muscle injury prior to the fifth T20I against Zimbabwe. However, he has been declared fit by the physio and will be travelling with the rest of the team for the upcoming tournament.

Mohammad Saifuddin who returned to the T20I fold with the Zimbabwe series did not get the chance to the World Cup squad. Mehidy Hasan Miraz has also missed out on the opportunity, the spin all-rounder was on BCB's radar for surprise inclusion after Taskin's injury.

Taskin will miss the upcoming T20Is against the co-host USA which will commence on May 21. Hasan Mahmud is likely to feature in the three-match T20Is as BCB included Afif Hossain and Hasan as travel reserves.

Bangladesh are placed in Group D along with Sri Lanka, South Africa, Netherlands and Nepal the matches will be played in both the USA and West Indies.

Tigers will kick off the tournament with their bitter rivals Sri Lanka on June 7 in Dallas, Texas. Bangladesh will play against South Africa and the Netherlands on June 10 and 13 respectively.

Bangladesh will meet Nepal in the last match of the group stage.
