The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) made significant strides in advancing the country's cricket during its Annual General Meeting (AGM) held today at a prominent city hotel. Two key clauses of the constitution were amended to bolster the sport's progress.
One notable change is the introduction of BCB TV, a platform aimed at amplifying the promotion of domestic cricket. This innovative step promises to enhance visibility and engagement with cricket enthusiasts across the nation.
BCB CEO, Nizam Uddin Chowdhury, highlighted the amendments aimed at empowering the board to pursue risk-free yet profitable investment opportunities. These endeavors will be instrumental in financing various developmental activities crucial for cricket's growth, leveraging the board's financial resources effectively.
After the amendment, the BCB will be able to purchase any of their equipment independently, what they earlier did through a third party.
“In order to fasten our financial activities and according to the legal advice, we have made the amendment. As you know, we have to meet the compliance requirements of the Bangladesh Bank for any financial transaction. And we amended the articles by considering these factors,” he said following the AGM.
Earlier in the meeting, BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon revealed that the budget for the ongoing fiscal year from July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024 was also ratified unanimously by the councilors during the AGM.
“The probable earning of the year was TK 446 crore while the total possible expenditure TK 407 crore including the BPL.”
He further said that they have allocated TK 20 lakh for the development of the Regional Cricket Association, adding that no district cricket association will be allocated a single penny unless they hold district cricket on a regular basis.
It was BCB's second AGM since the 2021 election of the current board.
