Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hasan Papon criticised the Bangladesh cricket team following their devastating defeat against Sri Lanka in the first Test at Sylhet.

Bangladesh lost the first Test by 328 runs within the fourth day, getting out for 182 in a chase of 510 runs in the second innings against Sri Lanka.

Papon remarked that he was not concerned about the result but he was disappointed with the team's below-par mindset and attitude.

“I must not say that I was not confident that they would win the match against Sri Lanka. It's not about the loss itself. The way they played. Their mindset, attitude, shot choices - it's disappointing. It appears as though they may not be interested in playing this format, or there could be other issues at play,” Papon told the media.

“We are disappointed by this defeat. Winning or losing is not the main concern. Their shot selection and mindset are not suitable for Test cricket. There are no novices here. They all understand what needs to be done. We are let down by this," he added.

BCB's boss opined that Litton should have been given more breaks, and it would have been better if he had not played the first test.

Litton Das was dropped from the third ODI due to his poor form in the first two matches against Sri Lanka which offered him a short break before playing the Test series, but transitioning from one format to another proved challenging for the wicket-keeper batter as he managed to score 25 and 0 respectively.

“I have been watching him since the last World Cup. I think there is a problem because of that, he was left out of the ODI team. We have played and trusted him for so many years. It’s not like that he can't play. He is a great player. Something is wrong,”

“It would have been better if he didn't play the Test match. But then we would also be criticized for that. Why did he drop him! But if we gave him a break at the moment, he would come back very well,” he added.
