Gujarat Titans emerged victorious against Mumbai Indians by a narrow-margin of five runs in the match-5 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Sunday.
MI needed 19 runs to win off the last over. Pandya hit a six and a four but Umesh Yadav fought back by dismissing him in the third ball.
MI lost early wickets but Rohit Sharma and Dewald Brevis put them on top with a 77-run partnership. Azmatullah Omarzai dismissed Ishan Kishan and Naman Dhir early. Rohit and Brevis then dominated the GT bowlers. However, Rohit fell for 43 and Brevis for 46.
Mumbai couldn't recover and Gujarat, led by Shubman Gill, won the match.
Being sent to bat, Gujarat Titans (GT) seemed poised to reach a formidable total, possibly exceeding 200 runs. However, the exceptional performance of Jasprit Bumrah restricted them to 168/6.
Bumrah made an impact by claiming the crucial wicket of Wriddhiman Saha with his signature yorker, providing Mumbai Indians with their first breakthrough. The momentum further shifted in MI's favor with spinners Piyush Chawla and Shams Mulani contributing significantly.
Chawla dismissed Gujarat's captain Shubman Gill for 31 runs off 22 balls.
GT found some respite through strong performances from Sai Sudharsan, who scored 45 runs off 39 deliveries, supported by Azmatullah Omarzai (17) and David Miller (12).
