Shakib’s Rangpur knocked out by Tamim’s Barishal

Rangpur Riders knocked out of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024 by Fortune Barishal as Tamim Iqbal’s Barishal won the second qualifier by six wickets at Sher-e-Bangla Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Wednesday.
Chasing 150, Barishal lost their openers, Tamim Iqbal and Mehidy Hasan Miraz early and were reduced to 22/2 in the fourth over.
Soumya Sarkar and Mushfiq then built a 47-run partnership to ease the pressure. Soumya departed for 22.
Mushfiq kept on going as he was then joined by Kyle Mayers, who played a little cameo to all but seal the match for Barishal. Mayers hit three maximums and one boundary in his 28-run innings from 15 balls.
Mushfiq remained unbeaten on 47 of 38 balls hitting six boundaries and one maximum. Barishal's South African recruit David Miller hit a six off Shakib to clinch a comfortable six-wicket victory in the end.
Earlier, Rangpur posted 149 for 7 in the must-win match.
Rangpur's batters struggled to maintain consistency, only Shamim Hossain’s quick fire kept them in the match.
Mahedi Hasan (2) lost his wicket on the first ball of Mohammad Saifuddin. Shakib Al Hasan also departed in the same over as he managed to contribute only 1 run from his bat.
Rony Talukdar also couldn't capitalize, scoring only 8 runs off 12 balls before returning to the pavilion.
James Neesham tried to stabilize the innings but failed to replicate his outstanding performance from the previous match, he got out for 28 runs today.
Nicholas Pooran also couldn't deliver with the bat, getting dismissed for just 3 runs. Mohammad Nabi couldn't hold ground after scoring only 12 runs before losing his wicket.
The captain Nurul Hasan Sohan also failed to make significant impact, scoring just 14 runs off 17 balls before getting bowled.
Shamim kept the fight alive for Rangpur, scoring a quick fifty off 20 balls. He equaled the record for the fastest fifty along with Shakib in this year’s BPL.
Abu Haider Rony supported him well, adding 12 runs off 9 balls. Shamim remained unbeaten, scoring 59 runs from 24 balls with 5 fours and 5 sixes.
On the bowling side for Barishal, James Fuller took 3 wickets conceding 25 runs in 4 overs. Saifuddin also contributed with 2 wickets. Kyle Mayers and Mehedi Hasan Miraz each took one wicket.
