Sylhet suffer their fifth straight defeat in BPL 2024

Fortune Barishal beat Sylhet Strikers by 49 runs in their Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) match in Sylhet on Tuesday.
Barishal bowlers' domination wrecked Sylhet's batting line-up as Mohammad Imran claimed a four-fer Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Khaled Ahmed each took two wickets apiece to restrict Sylhet to 137 runs in 17.3 overs.
Chasing the target, Sylhet lost their key batter Najmul Hossain Shanto early, he was removed by Miraz on 9 runs and Shamsur Rahman scored a meager 25 runs before getting castled by Imran.
Zakir Hasan added a 58-run partnership with Benny Howell that steadied their innings untill Imran broke the stand to initiate the collapse of Sylhet.
Imran denied Zakir's half-century, as the latter fell short of four runs getting dismissed on 46 facing 34 balls featuring four boundaries and two maximum.
Howell also followed Zakir as he departed on 24 in the next over leaving the score board on 110-5. Sylhet kept losing wickets at regular intervals and ended up losing all wickets in a space of three overs.
Earlier, Ahmed Shehzad and Mahmudullah Riyad smashed half-centuries to guide Barishal post 186-5 in the accumulated overs.
Shehzad hit 66 off 41 featuring nine boundaries and two sixes, scoring highest for Barishal and Mahmudullah played a stormy knock of 24-ball 51 consisting seven 4's and 2 maximums.
Soumya Sarkar and Mushfiqur played brief innings of 20 and 22 runs respectively in the middle that helped Barishal secure a mammoth total.
Howell was the pick of the bowling attack as he took three wickets for Sylhet.
