Chattogram Challengers batter Tom Bruce aims to leverage his experience in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) to seek further opportunities in franchise leagues and earn a place in the New Zealand national team squad.
Bruce, known for his big-hitting batting style, has played 17 T20Is for New Zealand and joined the Chattogram Challengers for the BPL, has expressed his desire to make a comeback in the national team. He last appeared in a T20I series against India in 2020.
“Look, like I said, I've had a taste of international cricket with the Black Caps. Certainly, this opportunity in Bangladesh and franchise cricket allows me to expand my game. Hopefully, I'm able to get some game time and certainly prove myself again.
“I certainly would love to get back into the New Zealand side, but if that isn't possible, then I'd love to play as much cricket as I can worldwide. So certainly a great opportunity to be here in Bangladesh,” he said.
Bruce shone with the bat on his BPL debut with his well-crafted 51 off 44 balls, steering his team to a commanding 8-wicket win against Sylhet Strikers. Bruce expressed his eagerness to learn from the Bangladesh players and to reciprocally share his knowledge.
“I've toured the subcontinent in India and Sri Lanka and obviously, it's my first time in Bangladesh. So I want to learn as much as I can off the boys here, but then also if I can impart any sort of knowledge, like I said, on some of the youngsters, that's going to be beneficial to my game and growing it. So, yeah, certainly exciting time and really looking forward to this challenge,” he added.
