Sohan to lead Rangpur as Shakib bows out from captaincy

Ace-allrounder Shakib al Hasan won’t take up the captaincy role in this year’s BPL, as stated by Rangpur Riders’ franchise owner Ishtiaque Sadeque.
According to him, Shakib does not want to take any captaincy pressure after he suffered an eye problem during the World Cup and decided to hand the responsibilities to wicket-keeper batter Nurul Hasan Sohan.
The all-rounder has complained of a retina problem following the conclusion of the World Cup tournament. He is currently in London for specialized eye treatment and is expected to return before the BPL.
“We received the same update as in Bangladesh after the Angiogram was done in London. Hopefully there won't be any major changes. Rest, he was advised to live a stress-free life. But he will arrive home by 18th InnshAllah,” said Ishtiaque.
“Initially we thought about Shakib Al Hasan to take the captaincy role. However, Shakib has told us that he does not want to take the pressure of captaincy. So we announced Nurul Hasan Sohan as our captain for BPL,” he added.
Sohan captained the side in the previous season and guided Rangpur to the Super-4.
