Sylhet Strikers’ head coach Rajin Saleh was optimistic about Mashrafe Bin Mortaza returning to lead the side in the upcoming 10th edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024.
The former captain was absent from cricketing action due to his busy schedule in the national election but the team is optimistic about having him back from the first match.
"Till now, Mashrafe is our captain. We haven't decided about the vice-captain yet. We will take this decision by tomorrow. The foreign players will join the practice tomorrow, and several players are expected to arrive during the night. Two players will come on the day of our match," said Rajin to the media.
Rajin Saleh reckoned the potential of players like Yasir Rabbi and Mithun Ali to step up and make a significant impact in the BPL. He drew parallels with past players from Sylhet who have gone from being relatively unknown to becoming national heroes.
Towhid Hridoy, who played for Sylhet in the previous season, has now moved to Comilla Victorians, underlining the platform's role in nurturing talent.
"There were many players who played for the Sylhet team and became heroes from zero. Towhid Hridoy has gone to the Bangladesh team as a hero. Shanto’s consistent performance made him the captain of the Bangladesh national team. We have some national team cricketers. There is Yasir Rabbi, and Mithun Ali. We hope they will make a comeback," Rajin remarked.
The 10th edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024 is scheduled to kick off on January 19 with the opening encounter between the star-studded Comilla Victorians and Durdanto Dhaka.
