Before the T20 World Cup, Bangladesh is scheduled to play five T20Is, including two Tests against Zimbabwe at home, however, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is thinking of playing the Test series at another time keeping in mind the preparations for the global tournament.
BCB cricket operations chairman Jalal Yunus said they are trying to scrap the two Tests of the Zimbabwe series. Although no final decision has been taken in this regard, according to the BCB official.
"Someone from the media asked me if there was a plan. I said it's not final yet. But we want to postpone it as there are two Test matches followed by five T20Is. These five T20s are important for us,” Jalal said in Mirpur on Tuesday.
“We haven't decided yet but would like to see if these two Tests can be reduced. Then later we can move to another time. It's not official yet. Now we can tell later. Since we have not signed an agreement with Zimbabwe on itinerary. That is why it is difficult to say this moment.” he added.
The T20 World Cup will start on June 1 as Bangladeshi players will start their first preparation with Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) on January 19.
After that, the Bangladesh team will host Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe for home series. After playing two Tests, there are three ODIs and the same number of T20Is against Sri Lanka.
Then Zimbabwe will visit Bangladesh in May. With two Tests, five T20Is are scheduled to be played in this tour.
BCB wants to send the team to the host country USA early for preparation, skipping two Tests of that series, so that they can adapt to the conditions.
Bangladesh will play cricket in the USA for the second time. They played two matches there against the West Indies in Florida in 2018.
