Bangladesh prominent umpire Sharfuddoulla Ibne Shohid Saikat is set to officiate in the upcoming West Indies-Australia series, confirmed to Cricfrenzy.

Recently, Saikat became the first Bangladeshi umpire to appear in the ODI World Cup tournament. He officiated in a total of five matches including the Australia-New Zealand match in World Cup 2023.

In addition, the 44-year-old umpire served as the fourth umpire in three matches, including the England-New Zealand opening match, and as a television umpire in three more matches.

BCB Umpires Committee Chairman Iftikhar Ahmed Mithu confirmed the development to Cricfrenzy on Wednesday.

"Saikat went to the World Cup, he did very well there. As a result, the ICC has also noticed him. Hopefully, he will be called from many places. Because there is no corona and the rule of neutral umpire is back. Saikat is going for umpiring in the Australia-West Indies series,” said Mithu.

Saikat has served as an umpire in the ICC Women's ODI World Cup held in New Zealand. He was in the U-19 World Cup several times.

He was also included in the umpiring panel in the last Emerging Asia Cup.

The tour comprises two Tests and three ODIs and three T20Is which will begin with the first Test to be held in Adelaide on January 17,

The second Test will begin on January 25 in Brisbane. Following that, the ODI series will start on February 2.
