Fast bowler Gerald Coetzee has been ruled out of the New Year's Test against India, scheduled to be played from 3-7 January at Newlands in Cape Town.
The fast bowler has been omitted from the squad as a precautionary step due to discomfort in his pelvis that emerged during the preceding Test match.
Coetzee initially developed pelvic inflammation during the first Test, and the condition worsened as he continued to bowl on the third day.
Following scans conducted on Friday, 29 December, the extent of his injury was revealed.
In a preventive move, head coach Shukri Conrad has opted to release Coetzee from the squad, and as of now, no replacement has been designated.
South Africa currently leads the two-match ICC World Test Championship series 1-0, securing a comprehensive victory at Centurion by an innings and 32 runs.
