Former Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza's recent comments about the 'mentor' role in the national team have caused quite a stir.
In a recent development, Bangladesh ODI captain Tamim Iqbal came out of his retirement within 29 hours after consulting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
During their meeting, Tamim also proposed having Mashrafe as the team's mentor during the upcoming World Cup. However, Mashrafe has expressed confusion about the usefulness of the mentor role and does not see anything positive about it at the moment.

“'What is the use of a mentor? Can you tell me a little? I do not know why he (Tamim) wants a mentor! I don't know what a mentor does. If such a situation arrives when the team would require a mentor, then it can be discussed,” said Mashrafe.
“Now if you ask me the question, there is no answer. What do I answer here? If such a situation arises in the future, something like that happens, then you can actually say something. At the moment I don't see anything like that,” he added.
Tamim, who has been suffering from a back injury was advised to take a mental break for 1.5 months but later it was discovered that the left-arm batter have to undergo surgery. Mashrafe noted that Tamim's injury was hindering his performance and advised him to focus on recovery.
“Tamim’s injury is bothering him. He is not performing due to his injury. So what should be done? His injury should be fixed. As I said, doing the right things. He should now worry about injuries. If he gets fit, I am sure he will score runs automatically and make a comeback soon,” he added.
