Bangladesh qualify for Women’s ODI World Cup

Bangladesh are ready to test the strength of their bench and they are also eyeing to clean sweep as well against the World Champions England on Tuesday in the third and last T20I match in Mirpur.

Despite having ODI series victories, including some whitewashes, against some strong opponents. However, Bangladesh has only ever defeated a Test-playing nation in a T20I series once, when they defeated Zimbabwe 2-0 in 2020.

Bangladesh will have the taste of whitewashing a Test-playing country for the second time if they beat the Three Lions.

Bangladesh national team selector and former captain Habibul Bashar said, "We will definitely play to win,"

"It's more important to keep playing the cricket we are playing right now. Nothing could be better than winning (the final match and making it 3-0). England are the world champions, we won a series against them. But it will be even better to win the last match. But, so far I'm really happy with the way the players have responded to this style of cricket" he added.

In the first two games of the series, Bangladesh used 12 players. Mehidy Hasan Miraz took the place of Shamim Hossain, who started the first T20I. And on Sunday, Miraz showed a man-of-the-match worthy performance.

Three more players have yet to participate in the series. Fast bowler Rejaur Rahman Raja and spinner Tanvir Islam are eager to make their debuts, and wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan Sohan will be looking for a chance to establish himself in the team.

"It's important to test our bench strength. If you don't give your reserve players a chance to get match-ready, how can you expect them to perform in important matches? But we haven't discussed whether we will make the changes, but that's always an option," Bashar said.

With the idea of experiment, there is also the focus on winning the series 3-0 and set an amazing record in Tigers’ history.

"The focus will be on winning. Of course, we want to win. If we can make one or two changes (in the playing XI) through that, the team can do that if they want. One good thing I think is that our bench is very strong now. Even if we bring someone new, it will not be just for the sake of bringing them. I think those who are in this squad, all have the ability to play in the XI," the selector added.

Bashar also cleared about veteran Mahmudullah Riyad’s omission from the squad as he stated that Mahmudullah has been rested for their three one-day internationals against Ireland, not dropped.

“We have a couple of alternatives in Mahmudullah’s position. That is why we have rested him, nothing else. We want to try out the batting order with new faces,”

“We have rested Mahmudullah because there is not much to work on with him. When the big tournament comes, he has nothing to prove. But if we pick someone in his place, they will have to prove themselves. In case someone picks up an injury ahead of the World Cup, we need to take players who have passed the test” he said.
