Bangladesh clinched a commanding six-wicket win in the first T20I at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram on Thursday.

Najmul Hossain Shanto's fifty and the captain's knock from Shakib al Hasan propelled Bangladesh to chase down a 157-run target with six wickets and two overs to spare against England, which is also their first win in T20Is over the World Champions.

Shanto smashed 51 off just 31 balls which featured eight fours with a strike rate of 170 while Shakib remained unbeaten on 34 off 24 with six boundaries.

Opener Rony Talukdar, who returned in national colours after 8-year hiatus played a knock of 21 off 14 on his return but wicket-keeper batter Liton Das was down for 12 runs.

Then Shanto took the charge of the game, added 65 runs with Towhid Hridoy for the third wicket partnership. Debutant Hridoy played a brief knock of 24 off 17 before getting castled by Moeen Ali.

Shanto also departed in the next over just after registering his third T20I half-century, the left-handed batter fell prey to Mark Wood, when Bangladesh were reeling on 112-4.

Shakib and Afif Hossain (15) then ushered the side to finish on 158-6, recreating the Adelaide win over the same opponent in a World Cup stage eight years ago.

Earlier, Bangladesh won the toss and decided to bowl first against England.  The bowlers kept the batters in check as they managed to score 156-6 in 20 overs.

Top-scorer Jos Buttler and Phil Salt put on an 80-run opening partnership to give England a positive start but England could not keep up the momentum as the bowlers kept taking wickets.

Salt departed on 38 and Dawid Malan returned momentarily on 4 while Buttler remained on the pitch and stitched a 47-run partnership with Ben Duckett.

Buttler was dropped by Shakib al Hasan when England were on 45-0 during the first powerplay. The captain capitalized on the second chance and converted his innings to 67 off 42 balls, hitting four boundaries and equal number of sixes.

Hasan Mahmud was the pick of the bowlers with two scalps while others took one wicket each for the hosts.
