Sumaiya Akter and Dilara Akter's winning knocks helped Bangladesh Women's U-19 team win their first game against Australia Women's U-19 by seven wickets on Saturday at Benoni in the U-19 Women's T20 World Cup 2023.
This is also the first-ever edition of the U-19 Women's T20 World Cup, with Bangladesh taking on Australia in the opening match.
Bangladesh's chase got off to the worst possible start when they lost opener Misty Shaha to Mckenna's first ball of the innings.
Afia Prottasha and Dilara Akter then brushed aside the nerves with a 66-run partnership before the latter, who scored a 42-ball 40 with seven boundaries.

Afia smashed two fours and two sixes in her 22-ball 24 before being caught by Ainsworth, leaving Bangladesh at 71-3 after 10.1 overs.
Bangladesh crossed the finish line thanks to a 61-run stand between Shorna Akter (13) and Sumaiya, who smashed match-winning 27-ball 41.
Australia batted first and reached 130-5 thanks to a fifty by Claire Moore, who top-scored with 52 runs off 51 balls, hitting seven fours along the way before being dismissed by leg-spinner Rabeya Khan.
Australia didn't get off to the best of starts, as Bangladesh pacer Disha Biswas struck twice in the first four overs, dismissing both openers, Kate Pelle and Paris Bowdler.
Moore steered the ship with a 76-run stand with Ella Hayward, who hit a 39-ball 35 before falling to Marufa Akter in the 18th over with Australia trailing by 102 runs.
Marufa and Disha picked up two wickets each and leg-spinner Rabeya scalped one wicket.
