Rangpur Riders bagged their first victory on the first day of the 9th edition of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), thanks to Rony Talukdar’s smashing half-century as they beat defending champions Comilla Victorians by 34 runs in Mirpur Friday.
Rony hit his fifty in just 19 balls, the fastest half-century by a Bangladeshi batter in tournament history. The right-hander was removed after batting 67 off 31 pitches.
Rangpur managed 176 for five despite not being able to bat with the same intensity for the rest of the innings.

Shoaib Malik scored 33 off 26 balls, and skipper Nurul Hasan made an 11-ball-19 cameo.
In reply, Comilla captain Imrul Kayes (35 off 23) attempted to take down the Rangpur bowlers but was aided by others, most notably number five Mosaddek Hossain (15 off 25).
Sikandar Raza (2/23) dispatched the perilous Dawid Malan and Shykat Ali. Rangpur's bowlers all took at least one wicket. Hasan Mahmud also took three wickets.
