Mahmud's last edition team Fortune Barisal, where he worked with prime all-rounder Shakib al Hasan but could not become champions even though they reached the finals last time. He saw his team as runner-up four times in a row. This time his goal is to become a champion.

“I have worked with Shakib for many years. Dhaka Dynamites in BPL, last year Barishal. Maybe there was no luck. Khulna thought I was a good fit for them, so they took me. I will try to give my “best shot”. Here's to doing the best. To do something good. I have good chemistry with Tamim. I will try to do something good together. The aim is to become the champions. That's what I came here for,” said Mahmud after the practice session in Mirpur Tuesday.

Tamim returns to BPL after recovering from injury. The ODI captain of the Bangladesh national team also missed the Test series after the ODI against India due to a groin injury. Mahmud is optimistic about Tamim’s return in competitive cricket.
Khulna will face Dhaka Dominators in their first match on January 7.
“Tamim has recovered well. Went to Bangkok with Champaka (Ramanayake). Then there was an injury. Has batted well in the nets for the last two days. I also told him to slow down. As our game is on 7th (January). Today is only the 3rd. We will play a practice match tomorrow. Maybe Tamim will bat there for a while. He is fit. Ready to go" he added.
