Bangladesh fast-bowler Taskin Ahmed is doubtful for the first Test match against India due to lower-back pain.

Taskin was not able play the first two ODIs against India after his old back injury resurfaced. But the injury couldn’t keep him off the field as he returned to third ODI of the series.

“If I can manage the bowling load before this match, if the team management thinks I can play, then I will play. If I can’t regain my fitness then management might not play me in the first test. In that case, second test should be observed,” stated Taskin during the press conference.

Taskin stated that the team management was concerned about his fitness ahead of the first match. Taskin, now expecting to make a return on the second Test.

“It has been discussed with the team management. As I have just came back from injury, they are worried about my build-up. Workload build-up, fitness, bowling load — working on everything. I have talked about it. I have been given a workload plan. I am working accordingly,” he added.

Taskin suggested the bowlers to be patient on a a flat surface at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.

"Chattogram is a batting paradise in Bangladesh. It has never been easy for fast bowlers here. We are improving but we are yet to get favourable wickets. It is usually a batting track,"

"It's the same everywhere. If we try to force the issue, it won't work in our favour. We will leak runs. They are good players, so we have to get the new ball to swing a bit. Maybe get reverse swing with the old ball. We have to try to break their patience. We have to bowl patiently and wait for their mistakes. It won't be right to say that we want to blow them away,"

Taskin believes that Bangladesh's fast-bowling unit has shown improvement in all three formats, with the focus being on better work ethic and desire.

"As a pace bowling group, we are hungry for improvement. We are all in it together. Work ethic has improved. This is all we have in our hands. The management is with us, so if our desire remains, we can do better," he added.

Taskin had a fine form in the T20 World Cup which was held in Australia. He last appeared in a Test match in March against South Africa. The right-hand spearhead was sidelined during the Sri Lanka and West Indies series due to the injury.
