It happened in the fourth ball of India pacer Mohammed Siraj's second over of Bangladesh's innings, when he got one to kick from good length and find the outside edge of opener Anamul Haque Bijoy's bat. The ball landed low to Rohit, who was standing at slip. He got both hands on it, but the ball landed on the wrong part of his thumb and bounced away.

The Indian captain was in discomfort immediately. There was blood on his left palm even as Rohit walked off the field grimacing in pain.

Since then, vice-captain KL Rahul has taken over as captain, with Rajat Patidar serving as a substitute fielder.

After losing the low-scoring series opener by one wicket, India is fighting to stay alive in the three-match series.
