Rangpur sign big names

Former Australia fast-bowler Glenn McGrath believes David Warner has paid his price for the ball-tampering scandal and should be allowed to captain the side.

Three Australian cricketers, Steve Smith, Warner and Cameron Bancroft were banned for their involvement in the sandpaper scandal in the third Test of the series against South Africa.

All three were banned for a maximum of one year but Cricket Australia banned Warner for life from captaincy. Cricket Australia recently amended its policy, clearing the way for the batsman to lead again.

"I think the way Cricket Australia has handled the situation has left the door open for Warner [to become captain in any format]," said McGrath.

"I think they [Warner, Smith and Bancroft] have paid their price," said the legendary bowler.

McGrath believes that Warner is a contender to get a chance to become the captain.

"They have paid a heavier price than any other cricketer that's been done for ball tampering and if that [captaining Australia] is something David Warner wants to do and the powers that be are happy, then good luck to him,"

"He's definitely a player who plays with passion and emotion and is aggressive, but I think he's paid his price and deserves a go," he added.
