Taijul Islam picked up a fifer in Bangladesh XI's triumph over Tamil Nadu by an innings and four runs at M A Chidambaram Stadium on Friday.

Resuming at 133 for six and needing to score another 123 to make the visitors bat again, Tamil Nadu suffered an early blow when overnight batter Adithya Ganesh (48) was caught behind, two runs short of what would have been a well-deserved half-century.

Aswin Crist who joined Ajith Ram however ensured the home team would not go down without a fight as they stitched together a 102-run partnership for the eighth wicket.

Taijul took three wickets on the third day, then removed the last two batters to complete a five-wicket haul as the visitors wrapped up things before lunch was taken.

Earlier, Bangladesh XI had put on 349 for 9 in their first innings as the skipper Mohammad Mithun played a key role in setting up the win with his unbeaten 156.

Opener Shadman Islam scored 89 while Raja bagged five and Taijul got four in the first innings to skittle Tamil Nadu XI out for 93 as Bangladesh XI had enforced follow-on.

The second and final four-day match against Tamil Nadu will be played from November 1-4 at the same venue.
