Fortune Barishal have retained Ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan for the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) in January 2023.

Shakib played a crucial role in the previous edition where his team finished as the runner-up after losing to Comilla Victorians by one run in the final.

Earlier, Barishal announced West Indies power-hitters Chris Gayle and Rahkeem Cornwall are set to ply their trade in the upcoming edition and they have also bagged Afghanistan's Najibullah Zadran.

The left-handed batter scored 241 runs from 10 matches at an average of 26.77 and a strike-rate of 112.61 with one half-century and a top score of an unbeaten 52.

Cornwall, on the other hand, recently played for the Barbados Royals in the 2022 edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). The right-hander also hit a double century of late to give an account of his credentials in the shorter format of the game. Cornwall is also more than handy as an off-spin bowler.

The 43-day-long BPL will get underway on January 5 next year with the grand finale scheduled for February 16.
