Bangladesh ODI captain Tamim Iqbal believes all-rounder Mahmudullah Riyad and Mushfiqur Rahim should have been named in the T20 World Cup squad.
Mushfiqur decided to retire from the shortest format following his poor performance in the Asia Cup, in which Bangladesh were disqualified from the first round and former captain Mahmudullah was not included in the World Cup squad by team management.
Tamim opined that a decision on whether the duo will remain in the T20 circuit should be made before the T20 World Cup. He also stated that the new players should be given enough time to establish themselves.

“The team that is playing now is relatively new, except for a few members. Everything requires some time. As I have said before, Mushfiq-Riyad, if they were on a big stage like the World Cup, it would have been definitely better. Because, when you have carried a senior cricketer for a whole year, then why would you bring change before the World Cup?”, said Tamim.
“If it had been a year ago, it would have been fine. Because, there are only two years after this World Cup... and I must also say that those who are playing in their place, like Yasir Rabbi, I rate them very very high. Afif is playing very well," he said.
Sabbir Rahman and Mehidy Hassan Miraj were being tried as makeshift openers. However, Tamim considers that the players who play the opening role should open in the matches.
"I think, those who open, should be opened by them. But if there is a plan behind it (make-shift opener), I can't call it wrong," he added.
