Veteren all-rounder Mahmudullah Riyad has dropped from the T20I squad as Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced 15-member squad for the upcoming Australia's Twenty20 World Cup 2022 on Wednesday.
Mahmudullah, who captained the Tigers in the previous T20 World Cup last year in the UAE, has recently been under fire for his struggles in the shortest version of the game, particularly due to his low strike rate.
"Our T20 consultant [Sridharan Sriram] has given us a plan for the next one year. We are heading in a different direction in accordance with that plan. And we dropped Mahmudullah Riyad after consultation with all the members of the team management," BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu said after announcing the squad.
However, opener Litton Das, wicketkeeper-batter Nurul Hasan Sohan, and bowler Hasan Mahmud, who were all injured during the Asia Cup, have been recalled for the World Cup.

Liton missed the final two ODIs against Zimbabwe in August as well as the entire Asia Cup due to a hamstring ailment, while Sohan was unable to go to the UAE for the continental competition due to a finger injury sustained during the Zimbabwe tour.

Hasan Mahmud, who had returned to the national team for the first time in over 16 months during the previous Zimbabwe tour, was unfortunate to hurt his right ankle during a practice session before of the Asia Cup.
Soumya Sarkar, who was dropped from the squad following his poor performance in the previous T20 World Cup, has been retained as one of the squad's four stand-by players.
This will also be Bangladesh's first T20 World Cup without the experienced campaigner Mushfiqur Rahim, who retired from the format just a few days after the Asia Cup.
The Tigers will also play a tri-series including Pakistan and host New Zealand as a preparation before the T20 World Cup.
